New look for music video

Aloha! New stills from the music video for DCAP WON that I'm working on, I'm now really satisfied with the new blueish look for the video. Really interesting how these things work, you start off with something, you say to yourself "This is the look I'm going for" and the suddenly in the middle of it you go "No godamnit, THIS IS THE LOOK!". Creativity is a wierd thing.

I think I want the whole thing to feel like this hard core Frank Miller comic book but then again, I'm not sure. The only thing I know for sure is that I like it! For the extreme blue look I used Magic Bullet Looks one of my absolute favourite coloring tools. It's amazing!

And btw, who is this strange flying character? Hmm....

New style & animation test

LTFD-STYLE-TEST-2.2 from Juan Fernando Maguid on Vimeo.

Now I really feel that the style of the video is coming together. My general idea is that I want it to look like an abstract graffiti piece falling apart, the shapes coming to life.

Work in Progress. This is a style and animation test for a music video I'm working on currently for american hip hop artist DCAP WON, the track is called "Lay These Fools Down". He approached me via my Myspace, I like these kind of projects were I get to freak out and experiment with interesting techniques, in this case heavy use of both the mograph module and the amazing CS Tools for Cinema 4D.

I plan to finish it beginning of April.

Pitch for Sveriges Historia

SH Pitch - Motion Graphics and Logotype Design from Juan Fernando Maguid on Vimeo.

A pitch I did together with Johan Sondestedt from Cinematic for a swedish TV-show about the history of Sweden. They liked everything but the symbol in the logo. Later they went for a bigger production company.

Normally I'm against pitching, I have to work for a living food doesn't automatically fall from the sky onto my table but in this case it was such a fun project.

Exciting new project @ Filmtecknarna

Woopee!

I was very excited when prestigious swedish animation and production company Filmtecknarna called me for a new project, I did my internship there almost exactly one year ago and it's the first time they hire me so of course i'm totally looking forward to it.

I will be doing some heavy After Effects duties on a new short film from award winning director Jonas Odell.

Rupert the Dancing Demon

I really love making up new characters for animated projects, this was my thesis project when I studied visual effects and compositing back in 2006/2007 in Buenos Aires, Argentina @ Image Campus.

It's about little demon misfit called Rupert who only wants to dance, something his father really doesn't appreciate.

Upcoming projects

I have several new very exciting projects coming up over the horizon, of course I can't speak much of them for now, thats the nature of this business but I will post details asap.

Learning more and more Cinema 4D and I really love it, I have tried several 3D packages but never came close to the fun I have with C4D. The new MoGraph Dynamics is amaaaaazing and very easy to use. Greyscale Gorilla has several very good tutorials about it, check em out!

Over and out stay fresh!

Working for DICE and EA

I was very excited when a swedish production company approached me for work on DICE and EA's upcoming A-title Battlefield Bad Company 2. I'm working on animated maps and on the cinematic intro for the game. Fun fun fun!

Soundbite : Music made with Reaktor Gaugear

Take everything away from me but never never take my sweet Reaktor Gaugear :-D I made a bunch of tracks using sounds from this marble of a soft synth during my year in Buenos Aires. Two of the tracks are featured in a short animated story by famous argentinian animator Elena Laplana.

Listen to the tracks here.
